11.28 [Sermon] Advent: A Season of Hope and Expectation - Part One - On this first Sunday of Advent we look with hope and expectation towards the birth of Christ, as it sets in motion a sequence of events that tug at the fabric of creation and begin to pull all things towards their ultimate renewal, redemption and resurrection. 

 

Stephen Cheung preaches on Matthew 1 and the long list of names at the beginning of Matthew's gospel. A clumsy list, easy to rush through, and yet when we begin to look carefully, we realize that these are not names of pedigree or prestige but rather a list of second sons, prostitutes and the powerless. The genealogy of Jesus is a list that questions our notions of earthly power and authority and forces us to understand that the power and authority of Christ is something altogether different.
